THIRD LEAGUE DEFEAT FOR REDHILL
Tuesday 31st August 2010
Shoreham 3-0 Redhill
Sussex League Division One
Redhill don't often get anything at Shoreham, and tonight was no different. A lackluster performance and not getting the rub of the green condemned
the Reds to their 3rd league defeat.
Redhill reserves beat Oakwood away from home 4-3.
Redhill looked forward to this game after coming in from winning 2 on the bounce, but after 90 minutes, it turned out to be a gae they'd rather
forget.
Middle road isn't a ground that often favours Redhill, and the Musselmen always prove to be tough, physical opposition.
As always, Redhill started bright. There was an early saved effort from Josh Bonnet after Kule Morgan played in a pass for Leon Dussard who
centered well for Bonnet, then Asher Hudson struck a bending shot following a Marcus Elliot header that was a tad too high for him.
Last seasons county league top scorer Andrew Dalhouse found himself on the wing, as he did for much of this match, and he put over a searching
cross for Asher Hudson in the box, but defender Nick Fogden cleared well.
Hudson was involved in another Redhill build up when he was very solid in the middle of the park and he made a pass to Bonnet who got a shot in
from a 50/50 challenge but the ball fizzed wide.
Shorehams Owen Callaghan who had a very good game for the home side then struck a volley at the Redhill goal, but it was safely in Chris May's
hands, then at the other end, Kyle Morgan had an effort that Ronan Callaghan saved easily.
Shoreham had a free kick that was crossed in dangerously towards Liam O'Brien, but luckily for Redhill it wouldn't come down for him.
However, Shoreham took the lead on 32 minutes when Nick Fogden banged the ball into the net following a comedy of errors in the Redhill box.
Poor defending allowed Shoreham to take advantage of a cross from a free kick halfway through Redhills half. THAT is how to make use of a set
piece.
The game could have changed just minutes from the restart when Redhill hit the post.
Andrew Dalhouse played the ball to Asher Hudson with a sublime pass, and Hudson crossed in low. The ball evaded everyone in the box, and it's
uncertain how much Morgan knew about it when he struck it against the woodwork.
Andrew Dalhouse put in a free kick from the right wing. The ball bounced off the top of 4 heads before the chance was over.
Shoreham made it 2-0 just before half time when Dean Smith tapped in from close range following an in-swinging cross.
Shoreham's Owen Callaghan hit a lovely effort at goal that was excellently tapped over from Chris May, then in another Redhill attack, Asher
Hudson latched onto a Dalhouse pass and smashed the ball at goal, but Ronan Callaghan saved well low down.
Redhill supporters were screaming minutes later when Kyle Morgan was in on goal. Despite a little pressure from his marker, the question on
everyone's lips was "why didn't you shoot?". It's fair to say it's easy on the terraces, we all talk a good game, but in the words of Andy Gray
"If you don't shoot, you're not gonna score". Shoreham put in a tackle after Morgan checked back and cleared the danger.
Owen Callaghan had an effort go wide for the home team, then again Redhill's Asher Hudson was on the attack and saw a cross superbly cut out by
the defence.
Andrew Dalhosue provided anotehr cross from the wing but Marcus Elliot couldn't quite get there, then Calvin Headley replaced Kyle Morgan.
Marcus Elliot then somehow missed a close effort when he seemed to hook the ball across the goal rather than tap it over the line then a
disgruntled Leon Dussard made way for Lee Radford, who, as always, did all he could to change the game, but with little over ten minutes to go,
al hope was seemingly lost.
Chris May was forced into a good save from Ryan Bradleys low effort, then Bradley was again on the attack before Radford put in an inch perfect
tackle on him.
On the 86 minute mark, it was 3-0. An absoute wonder cross came over for Liam O'Brien to head, unchallenged passed Chris May.
Redhill still kept going until the final whislte, Marcus Elliot had a decent header at the 'keeper, then Calvin Headley struck a free kick that
was also well saved. In the final few minutes, Elliot had another header, this one went over and Andrew Dalhouse curled a shot wide.
Redhill Team - May, Kyezu, Dussard (Radford), Dixon-Baker, Difford, Hudson, Morgan (Headley), Ofosuhene, Dalhouse, Bonnet, Elliot. Subs not used - Howell, Nicholas, Ellis.

Three Bridges 0-3 Redhill
Southern Youth League - South Division
The youth team kicked off their 2010/2011 campaign in fantastic style away at Three Bridges Wednesday night. The lads had an excellent pre-season,
and clearly the experience of playing plenty of Ryman League sides had paid off when they stepped on to the pitch. A team containing
a majority of 16 year olds controlled the game from start to finish and looked a team meaning business.
Although Redhill dominated a lot of the possession, there were no clear cut shooting opportunities until the 15th minute, when Andy Beesley saw
an effort saved by the Bridges keeper.
Redhill then began to up the tempo, and the very impressive Jordan Griffith played a brilliant through ball for Andy Beesley to evade the two
centre halves with a great turn of pace and finish on the outside of his boot from the edge of the box to put the Red's 1-0 up heading towards
half time.
The back two of Jeffrey Addo and Tobi Oluwu, both just turned 16 coped with every long ball that came their way, and it seemed that was the only
way Bridges were going to try and play the game.
Ramel Jones playing right back showed why he is so highly rated by getting forward on a number of occasions in the first half, and linked well
with Sam Ametewee who then got past the full back and put in a brilliant cross which went inches over the head of Jordan Griffith.
The second half began much the same as the first with the Red's dominating the possession levels but this time creating a lot more chances. The
pace of the Reds front three was clearly troubling the Bridge's defenders and once again Jordan Griffith got past his marker and found Andy
Beesley who rocketed a shot towards goal, only for the keeper to parry it in to the path of Sam Ametewee who cooly slotted home to make it 2-0
and the Reds in cruise control.
Bridges then mounted an attack down the right flank and Jordan Griffith committed a "tired foul" and conceded a penalty, which gave Bridges
their first shooting opportunity of the second half. Scott Faber blasted the ball wide for Bridges, and it was a warning shot for Redhill to
restamp their authority on the game.
The youngsters then showed great maturity entering the last 20 minutes of the game, and began to keep possession of the ball and trying to
frustrate Bridges, rather than mount attack after attack on their goal. Mark Parks was instrumental in this and began to become a great link
player between defence and midfield.
Leo Atkinson had a free kick which was saved brilliantly by the keeper and shortly after this, a well worked free kick taken by Mark Parks,
headed down by Sam Ametewee found Andy Beesley who brought the ball down past the Three Bridges defender and rocketed the ball in to the top of
the net.
The boys thoroughly deserved this win, but have been made aware this is only the first of many hurdles they will have to jump this year and the
bottom line is they are only as good as their last game. They can enter their FA Youth Cup tie with Eastboure Town next week with great
confidence, and will return to training on Friday with a big performance in mind.
Team - Andy Greaves, Ramel Jones, Jeffrey Addo, Tobi Oluwu, Tunde Dixon, Mark Parks, Leo Atkinson, Kieran Steadford, Andy Beesley, Sam Ametewee, Jordan
Griffith.
Subs - George Ransom, Josh Bargary, Alex Scott, Jack Howard and Reiss Hall.
