Redhills injury crisis continues after this 3-3 draw at home to Shoreham. All three substitutions were due to player injuries, including Reds
goalkeeper Chris May.
"I've worked out I've got 12 fit players out of a squad of 22 now." Manager Simon Colbran said. "What can you say? You've just got to get on with
it."
Jon Difford donned the gloves after 'keeper Chris May came off, and the search now starts to find a goalie for Saturdays trip to Selsey. "I'm going
contact Tonbridge Angels again, to see if we can get Joe Hagen back on loan, there's also someone else I'll be contacting." Colbran said.
Aaron Murphy was the first to suffer through injury after finding a lump on his calf at half time. He started the second half but was caught by a
a defender in what seemed a harmless challenge, but Murphy felt pain in his calf and was substitued. "Wayne [Clark] has done his shoulder in, he
could be out a couple of weeks, Chris may, God knows, 3 or 4 weeks and Aaron Murphy, 2 to 3 weeks possibly." Colbran told us.
This only adds, of course to list of players already on the sidelines; including Andy Atkin, Eddie Koboah, Mark Zydonik and Peter Barkley.
The opening 10 minutes was very stop-start which not only frustrated the players, but spectators too, who wanted to see the game flow, and less
weak contacts reaulting in free kicks.
Redhill however, took the lead on 14 minutes when Aaron Murphy was pulled back in the box by Dan Jordon. Billy Medlock spotted the ball and slotted
it nicely into the bottom corner.
It took just 5 minutes for Redhill to go 2-0 up, again Billy Medlock put the ball away. Latching on to a through ball, he beat Lee Eastman for
pace, went one on one with 'keeper Tony Wyatt, cool as a cucumber, Medlock took it round the goalkeeper and passed the ball into the net.
Shoreham then created a number of chances for themselves as Redhill seemed to take their foot off the gas.Gareth Green hit a nicely struck free
kick at Chris May, then Steve Davies shot just wide, although there were protests of offside from the Reds defence.
Chris May made a superb save at Davis' feet when, again May called for offside, but Davies one on one chance came to nothing as Chris May gathered
the ball safely.
Shoreham's Jacob Cook then headed into the side netting after getting on the end of aGareth Green looping cross, but on 41 minutes Shoreham got
a goal they deserved after some excellent football in the build up, eventually, Gareth Green got on the end of substitute Curt Fosters cross to
score with his head.
"As soon as you let teams get back in, especially tohse down the bottom of the league, it gives them belief and you're on the back foot." Colbran
said. "We should have finished them off, we've done this a few times this season and that's what happens. I told them that at half time, and it is
exactly what happened."
Early in the second half, Murphy's injury occurred and he came off for Dapo Kayode, a new signing from Hailsham Town, he was impressive and one
positive that came out of the game. Colbran commented, "He's sharp, skillful, quick and strong as well, it was a difficult game to get into from
the bench, but he's a good prospect."
Shoreham drew level on 67 minutes after a beautiful strike from Steve Davies and minutes later came Wayne Clarks substitution, coming off for Tom
Graves. Things were changed around with Kaiyne Woolery moving into the left wing position and Tom Graves stayed up fron with Billy Medlock.
Medlock had a lob attempt after a brilliant line ball by Nial Egan. Medlock saw Wyatt off his line, but the lob attempt went over.
Then came Chris May injury. After kicking the ball out, he was visibly in distress, the game continued and Shoreham even had a long effort at an open
goal go wide. On came Luke Hackett but Jon Difford put on the gloves and went between the sticks.
The man who's played in every position for Redhill was then lobbed by Curt Foster on 88 minutes to give Shoreham the lead. The side struggling at
the bottom of the table were elated at stealing the points, but Redhill still had more to say. on 90 minutes, Tom Graves got on the end of a loose
ball in a scrap following a corner kick, Graves scoring his second league goal of the season and slavaging a point for Redhill.
After the game, Simon Colbran reflected on how his side have rarely had the rub of the green this season.
"Every single game, things seem to go against us for some reason. In the second half today, I counted how many free kicks they were awarded, and
how many we were. We had 2, they had 12. There were 50-50's all over the pitch, it happens every game. I'm sorry to say this, but we have to be
truthful".
