This was certainly a game of two halves, as Redhill eventually got the victory to a distraught Croydon side who thought they had it won with two minutes left on the clock, and then everyone in the stadium was preparing for extra time until 3 minutes into time added on for stoppages.
Redhill manager Simon reflected on the game. "I thought thee secnd half we were on top and deserved the result in the end, although we didn't deserve anything in the first half. But in the second we gave 100 percent and we proved what we can do, and if we played like that in the first half, we could have won the game more comfortably".
Redhill did have a handful of early chances, with Aaron Murphy and Gavin Gordon going close, and Eddie Koboah was always looking dangerous on the right wing, almost teeing Billy Medlock up perfectly with a square ball, but it rolled behind the on-loan striker.
Croydon broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Lewis Longhurst beat the offside trap, chasing a long through ball. Chris May was left with no choice but to attempt to getto the ball first, way outside of his area, however, Longhurst poked it past the Reds 'keeper and slotted it home into the empty net.
When asked about Eddie Koboahs performance, Colbran said, "In the first half he didn't getinto great positions, but when he went out wide and stayed out wide, we got him the ball, and his pace is brilliant and he started to caused problems for the defence."
Koboah had an effortof his own earlyin the 2nd half when he beat two Croydon defenders with skill, pace and a little strangth before beeing his shot saved well by Justin Lee,
Nial Egan came off the bench to make his first team debut, replacing Medi Koroma. Nial has been performing well for the Reserves and work alongside Mike Maher in the youth system.
Redhill had a penalty shout when Eddie Koroma seemed to be brought down in the area. Although not a nasty foul, his pace was probably too much for the Crodon defenders.
Aaron Murphy looked to add to the goals he scored on Saturday with a thunderous 30 yard volley that stayed on target and brought out the best in Justin Lee again, and moments later, Chris May was called upon to make a saved from Claudio De Almeida, who maybe had more time but opted for the long range strike.
"Chris May didn't have much to do, but it shows class when he still manages to make good saves after his side has had most of the posession. Some Goalkeepers get cold and when they get the ball they make mistakes but Chris is always on his toes and his experienced." Said Colbran.
With just two minutes reamining Redhill were given a penalty when Koboah was fouled in the box and time, the referee gave the spot kick.
Aaron Murphy stepped up and placed it home nicely. Both teams and sets of supporters were dreading extra time in the cold night, but it wasn't to be. 3 minutes into injurytime, Koboah again fouled in the box, and for the 2nd time of the evening, Redhill were awarded a penalty. This time, Billy Medlock took the kick and made no mistake. 2-1 to Redhill.
Colbran now awaits no less than 7 players to return to the squad. "I'd rather have it like that" Colbran commented, "It just goes to show how strong the squad is we have here. A lot of teams having 7 players out will find themselves depleted." He continued. "We have some great youngsters coming through and that only adds to our strangth."
