Redhill are through to the 3rd round of the John O'Hara League Cup after a 3-1 win over St. Francis Rangers, a side they only just grabbed a point
against a week ago. Reds manager Simon Colbran commented on the difference betwen the 2 games. "It was a much harder game, I think they had a few
players back tonight, I was talking to Kieron [Collins - Rangers manager] after the game, they are a young side, and they did well, they kept at it".
Redhill still had the better of possesion and the majority of chances, scoring 2 goals in 2 minutes on the half hour mark, and sealing the win
on 70 minutes. "When you go 3-0 up, a lot of sides cave in and you go on and win it easily, but they plugged it." Colbran said.
As already commented, Redhill had chances in the first half before the two goals, and both sides played some excellent football. There was some
excellent inter-link play between Medi Koroma, Leon Dussard and Andrew Dalhouse in one move, and in another move started and finished by Scott
Harris shooting wide), Dussard and Koroma were again part of it. "I thought there was some brilliant football both ways tonight, each team trying
to play the right way which is really nice to see."
Scott Harris was singled out by a section of the Redhill support and Colbran spoke about his performance."You saw his experience today, playing
some good balls, I thought he was superb."
Andrew Dalhouse gave Redhill the lead with a wonderful strike on 30 minutes after Charlie Farmer pulled some good work out the bag, and just 1
minute later, Farmer himself got a goal after a thunderbolt free kick by Aaron Murphy rebounded off 'keeper Wesley Harris, giving Farmer all the
time in front of the goal to smash it home.
Colbran handed a debut to goalkeeper Joe Hagen as he continues to evaluate personnel across the whole squad. "It's hard to come into a club,
especially for a goalkeeper because he doesn't know his back four. He's been coached the right way, and I think he'll be a big asset."
Redhill's third goal came on 63 minutes after Stefan Jpseph burst down the wing with the ball, got straight into the box, shaped well and neatly
slotted it passed Harris.
Francis then began a spell of dominance, forcing Hagen into a number of saves, once in particular from a Pete Martin shot that he pushed over the
bar.
Aaron Walsh gave Rangers hope on 70 minutes when he was left unmarked on the back post and headed easily into the Redhill net. Seemingly the Reds
defence fell asleep, much to the dismay of Simon Colbran.
Rangers finished on top with Hagen forced to make anothe couple of saves, but Redhill did enough to get through.
"We're in a lot of big competitions at the moment, and of course the league, which we want to do well in, when you come into competitions like this,
it's easy to fall flat, but it once again proves the attitude of the squad we've got here, with the desire to win every single game. They don't
worry about what's at stake, they just want to do well every minute of every game.
