Gavin Gordon proved his worth on Saturday with a perfect hat-trick to help fire Redhill to 3rd in the table. "That's Gav for you, he's just a natural goalscorer. In the right place at the right time, all the time." Manager Sion Colbran commented.
Redhill were desperate to put the mid-week defeat to Three Bridges behind them and manager Simon Colbran described last week how the best teams are those who can bounce back. When asked about bouncing back, Colbran said "That's what we were looking to do, we've been working hard in training, looking to press the ball more, look after it more, we did that today and I think that's why we turned it around the way we did today."
Despite an anxious start, Redhill dominated possession and created early chances with Leon Dussard shotting over after a neat one-two with Medi Koroma and Andrew Dalhouse got in behind Jayson Sowter to whip in a dangerous cross that glanced off the shin of Gavin Gordon. Jon Difford also had a header saved off the line.
Ringmers Kieron Patel went close with a long range effort after a Chris May sliced a clearance, but it Redhill who soon took total control and went 1-0 up on 26 minutes when Andrew Dalhouse caused problems in the Ringmer defence, and Gavin Gordon got a foot on the ball during a 50-50 challenge with goalkeeper Tom Rand. Gordon was injured in the process but was fine to carry on.
Gordon scored again just before half time when he made sure an Andy Atkin effort went over the line, and he completed his hat-trick two minutes into the second half with a header direct from a Redhill corner.
"After the game on Tuesday, I got a few texts and calls from players, they were absolutely devestated. they just don't like losing. Today showed what they're all about." Colbran said. The Redhill manager is hoping to add to his squad again by sealing the transfer of Scott Marshall from Peacehaven & Telscombe, which he hopes will be finalised by Tuesday's home match against St. Francis Rangers. "He's a brilliant player. He's a playmaker who's been at Crystal Palace and Crawley." Colbran said as the size of his squad grows. "We've got to realise we still had six or seven players out today. We've got Aaron Murphy and Scott Harris still to return, I'm hoping Peter Barkley will be back fit, although Eddie Koboah probably still has a little longer on the sidelines." Redhill were also without Tom Graves through illness and Jeffrey Addo-Dankwa is injured.
Redhill went 4-0 up on 53 minutes via a cracking Andy Atkin strike from just outside the area. Catching the ball spot on, he put his laces through it. If this was the premier league, it'll be shown on TV every day for a week.
Stefan Joseph scored Redhill's 5th with an acrobatic volley on 72 minutes that caught Tom Rand off guard. The cross came from Alex Scott, another product of the Redhill youth team who came on in the second half and impressed, despite some obvious signs of nerves, he nearly grabbed a goal himself. Simon Colbran praised the youth set-up, "It's nice to get the youngster through. During the whole season, there will be youth players coming in, getting their chances. Alex done well, a good cross for the goal, he looked nice and sharp, did everything right. I think maybe he tried to be too clever with his chance, but I though he done really well." On 78 minutes, Atkin got his second with a header straight from a corner. Ringmer got a consolation with 2 minutes remaining when Kieron Patel chased down a back pass and got lucky when the clearance smacked him and bounced beyond Chris May, leaving the Ringmer striker to pass the ball into the open net.
